Fruit and Shoot Borer Control
for Brinjal
The fruit and shoot borer is a
significant pest affecting brinjal (eggplant), with issues persisting even with
frequent pesticide applications in some Northern Indian and Bangladeshi
regions. Female moths lay their eggs individually on the young shoots of
brinjal plants. The larvae that hatch bore into these tender shoots, protected
from natural predators. As the plant matures and starts producing fruit, the
moths lay eggs on the fruit, where the larvae burrow in. Multiple larvae can
infest a single fruit, and they block their entry holes with excrement or frass
to avoid predation.
